Conservatorship Proceedings
Kirschbaum Law Group, LLC is a Connecticut law firm with a statewide probate court practice. Our probate attorneys are available to help people in all 54 probate court districts throughout the State of Connecticut.
The firm helps people in conservatorship proceedings, which are legal proceedings for helping adults who are not capable of managing their own affairs.
There are two types of conservatorships: involuntary conservatorships and voluntary conservatorships. Involuntary conservatorships are initiated when someone, who is called a petitioner, files a petition for involuntary conservatorship for another person, who is called a respondent. Voluntary conservatorships are initiated when someone, who is also called a petitioner, files a petition for a voluntary conservatorship for themselves.
We represent people in conservatorship proceedings who want to become a conservator for another person, who are serving as a conservator for another person, and who are interested parties in a conservatorship proceeding. An interested party would typically be a family member of a person who is a respondent in a conservatorship proceeding, or a family member of a person who is conserved. We typically do not represent people who are respondents in involuntary conservatorship proceedings, who are petitioners in voluntary conservatorship proceedings, or who are conserved.
We help conservators comply with their fiduciary duties to conserved people.
We also help other people, such as the spouses, children, and parents of conserved people, protect the rights of their loved ones who are conserved.
